With the whole town painted pink in anticipation for P!nk’s summer carnival tour this weekend, Townsville businesses are set to reap the benefits, with an expected 20,000 people to be drawn to the CBD over the two nights.

Townsville Enterprise Director Visitor Economy and Marketing, Lisa Woolfe says the influx of visitors into the region was a key goal of securing this event for North Queensland.

“From recent research, we know events are a primary motivator for travellers right across Australia, and we’re seeing that play out now as we welcome 5,000 visitors today through the terminal, and up to 20,000 visitors [total] right across the weekend,” says Lisa.

“Townsville continues to show its ability as a major events destination, and this will help us to bring future events to the city as we build on our profile as the events capital of the North.”

Townsville Chamber of Commerce CEO Heidi Turner says this is an exciting milestone for local businesses.

“We anticipate a surge in consumer spending as concert attendees explore and spend locally before and after the event,” says Heidi.

“This presents an excellent opportunity for businesses to capitalise on the increased activity and showcase the unique offerings of our community.”

Coffee Presto is one such business who have gone all out in the lead up to the concert, with owner Luke Guazzo saying he jumped at the chance to capitalise off the town’s excitement.

“It’s great to see Townsville rallying behind large acts, showcasing local products and being open for business, for not only locals but also tourists that are coming into the city,” says Luke, who decided to coincide Coffee Presto’s official launch with P!nk’s concert.

In light of this, they have released their own brand of strawberry sugar syrup, introduced pink-themed coffee options, have an assortment of pink treats and have staff members accessorising accordingly.

They have also partnered with Star106.3 radio station to play only P!nk music all day on Saturday.

The Ville Resort-Casino CEO Michael Jones says both Ardo and The Ville Resort-Casino are fully booked out over the weekend.

“It’s fantastic that our hotels are full of fans taking advantage of our hospitability offerings, with our restaurants, bars and casino ramping up to cope with the influx of guests staying at the hotel and visitors looking for somewhere to get the party started,” Michael says.

“The economic benefits for hospitality businesses across Townsville this weekend will no doubt be vast.”

Heidi says the exposure generated by the concert could lead to continued economic benefits for the region.

“We anticipate the exposure generated by hosting P!nk’s concert will elevate Townsville’s profile as a desirable place to live which will attract skilled workers and their families to the region,” Heidi says.

“This heightened visibility can lead to increased investment, job creation and sustainable economic growth in the long run.

“It also enhances Townsville’s reputation as a vibrant cultural destination, attracting more tourists and potentially leading to repeat visits in the future.”
