A boutique Burdekin distillery has shined on the international stage with its range of premium spirits, taking home a number of prestigious awards at several renowned international spirit competitions.

At the recent 2024 ADI International Spirits Competition, Burdekin Rum’s Premium Aged Rum garnered the prestigious Best of Category (2024 Best International Bottled & Blended Pot Still Rum) and Best of Class (2024 Best International Bottled & Blended Cane Spirit) titles.

The molasses-based rum also clinched a Gold medal at the TAG Global Spirit Awards, along with two more Silver medals at both the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the 2024 London Spirits Competition.

Burdekin Rum’s Premium Aged Rum was also commended by judges for its intricate aromas and described as perfectly suited for a rum punch.

Head Distiller Jason Chan says they were overjoyed to have received recognition at an international level, attributing their success to the collaborate effort of its local famers, distillery crew, head distiller and dedication of the team.

“We are honoured by the accolades received at these esteemed competitions” says Jason.

“Each award is a testament to the dedication and meticulous craftmanship of our team.

“We are proud to represent our region on the global stage and share the essence of the Burdekin though our exceptional spirits.”

Burdekin Rum is also known for its three French Caribbean style cane sprit products – the Vintage Cane Spirit, Virgin Cane Spirit and Distillers Edition ‘Wild Child’ – which were also celebrated for their quality.

All three cane spirits were awarded Double-Gold medals at the TAG Global Spirit Awards, with both the Virgin Cane Spirit and Wild Child clinching ‘Best in Show‘ for white rum and white overproof rum, respectively, marking them as the top-performing spirits in their class divisions.

For a second year, Burdekin Rum were also awarded a Double-Gold medal for their Virgin Cane Spirit, known for its aromas of lemon curd and tropical fruits, at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The Vintage Cane Spirit also followed its 2023 Double-Gold at San Francisco with a further Gold medal in this year’s competition.
