Workplaces Giving Back To The Community

As the new financial year kicks off, now is a great time to consider a workplace giving program.

Workplace giving programs involve employees voluntarily donating a small amount out of their pay towards a chosen charity or community group.

Over the 2021/22 financial year, Queensland Country Bank’s annual workplace giving program raised a total of $10,894 of employee contributions. This amount was then matched by the company, totalling $21,788.

Queensland Country Bank CEO, Aaron Newman says it’s a great way for their staff and company to give back to the communities in which they live and work.

“Our Workplace Giving Program provides an affordable way for our staff to make regular contributions from their pay to the selected charities that they’ve chosen,” says Aaron.

“Those four charities are Angel Paws, The Royal Flying Doctor Service, The Black Dog Institute and Cancer Council Australia.”

Townsville’s Angel Paws received $5447 from the program, a donation Angel Paws General Manager, Larissa Huxley is thrilled to receive.

“Angel Paws couldn’t operate without the support of the community, especially organisations like Queensland Country Bank that can contribute these large donations, which truly make a difference,” she says.

“We are currently looking for our own premises and the money will go towards that.”

The premises Larissa speaks of will become a home base for the organisation that will feature a boarding facility and a section for the animals they receive.

“Angel Paws is more about having our animals in foster homes. We bring them up to health, then a foster home is a better environment for them. The boarding facility will help us generate income to make sure we are sustainable,” Larissa explains.

Mr Newman says the affordability of the program results in a high participation rate with over 80% of Queensland Country Bank employees opting to make the one dollar per fortnight contribution, and encourages other organisations to consider implementing a Workplace Giving Program.

“The contribution of one dollar a fortnight may seem minimal, but it can make a huge difference to the charities we are assisting,” Aaron says.

“With 28 branches throughout the state, it doesn’t take long to add up, and we take great pride in being able to make meaningful donations at a time where many charities are doing it tough.”

The sentiment is echoed by Larissa. “Workplace Giving Programs truly make a world of difference for so many charities, and we’re so grateful to be a recipient of this donation.”
