A Townsville Roastery has taken home gold, winning medals in all five categories at The Golden Bean Australasia Coffee Roasters Competition – The World’s largest Coffee Roasting Competition.
Opening earlier this year, Coffee Presto is a complete supplier to North Queensland Cafe’s and alongside great coffee, its high focus on sustainability has made them a quick Townsville favourite.
After roasting for just 6 months on the new Toper Coffee Roaster, owner and roaster Luke Guazzo attributes the success to focusing on the latest customer demands.
“We have roasted and blended our coffee based on our understanding of North Queenslander’s palates” says Luke.
Coffee Presto boasts a showroom of world-class Morning Nespresso Compatible Pod, Italian Espresso and Jura Automatic Coffee machines, suitable for work or home.
Their signature blend, Presto Primo won bronze as a pour over / filter coffee, milk based coffee and alternative milk coffee, which is the intent for which it is roasted.
Their strong dark blend, Presto Forte, won bronze as an espresso as well as milk based coffee.
However, it was their Certified Fair Trade, Organic, Cool Mountain Water Natural Washed Decaf from Mexico, named Presto Zero, that stole the limelight and won gold.
It is described as having a medium body, with a sweet cocoa flavour and aroma of raisin.
Luke says the Presto Zero Decaf tastes like real coffee.
“We searched the world for a natural decaf that boasts all the flavours of a traditional coffee after we received a huge demand for decaf shortly after opening our espresso bar. We can now boast the best decaf in Australasia,” says Luke.
The Golden Bean Coffee Roasting Competition promotes the growth and skill levels of coffee roasters while recognising and celebrating their achievements.
The competition is open to roasters from Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia. The competition is judged by the roasters who attend the conference.
“We put it in our blind espresso paddle testing, and it ranks highly with all drinkers” says Luke.
