Technology to Take Hospitality Sector from Surviving to Thriving

A first of its kind hospitality event will be held at The Ville Resort-Casino next Tuesday to bring together some of Australia’s leading food technology experts to serve up the best advice and strategies to help North Queensland venue operators overcome current challenges to thrive in the post-pandemic world.

The Hospo TechTalk has been curated by local hospitality expert and founder of PEISO profitability software, Ivan Brewer, who says the Covid-19 pandemic has removed all historical trading norms and it is crucial that North Queensland hospitality operators adapt to technology to enable them trade profitably.

“Hospitality is Townsville’s third largest private employer, and there’s no doubt that the industry is under immense strain at the moment,” he says

“The pandemic saw tourism and hospitality spend return to 2014/15 levels, wiping away five years of growth, and a reduction of $300 million in direct and value added economic contribution.

“The reliance on takeaway during the Covid-19 lockdowns has irreversibly changed the way that Australians purchase food and the way that operators sell it. Skills shortages followed by wage costs are up by 36%, and the inability to increase prices continue to be the biggest problem facing the industry.

“On top of that, some businesses need to repay liabilities accrued during lockdowns. There’s no denying that the pandemic has ultimately forced many hospitality venues out of business, and those that are still hanging in there, are facing enormous financial pressure.

“It’s essential that operators understand current trends and the technology solutions available, and Hospo TechTalk brings together our industry’s leading hospitality app representatives to present, including Doshii, Now Book It, and Lightspeed.

“They bring with them a wealth of knowledge about national hospitality trends and case studies on how industry leaders are using technology to increase efficiencies, profitability and improve the customer experience.

Doshii CEO Justin O’Donnell says he has been working closely with Mr Brewer since PEISO’s recent integration on the platform, and is pleased to support the Hospo TechTalk. Mr O’Donnell says Doshii has experienced a wave of rapid growth and doubled its customer base over the last 12 months, from which he will present on national trends and data.

“Doshii fits between hospitality apps and point of sale systems to make them talk, we’ve got the full suite of what we can do from food ordering through to scanning a QR code and getting the order through to POS,” he explains.

“PEISO is the first analytics app that has gone live on our platform and we’re pretty pumped about the simplicity and actionable insights that can give people instant results.

“We’ve been riding a wave of growth and doubled our customer base in 12 months, so I’m looking forward to talking from an industry perspective about how cafes and restaurants are using these types of tools to solve problems such as staff shortages, trends we weren’t even seeing six months ago, and where I see the future of hospitality going.”

Mr Brewer says he is confident launching his PEISO profitability software to a wider market after successful testing and its recent integration on the Doshii platform, and is delighted that its launch has culminated in a free educational event for the region’s hospitality owners and operators.

“My passion for helping hospitality operators thrive is the driving force behind PEISO profitability software,” he says.

“What started as a small event to launch PEISO into the local market has grown into a first of its kind, national standard event that will equip local operators with essential knowledge and industry contacts to take advantage of the latest hospitality technology.

“In addition to our incredible speakers, we have representatives from Ordermate, Bepos, and IdealPOS travelling to attend, so it is an incredible opportunity to talk directly to technology experts to find the right solution to current challenges.

“We’re also offering the first 90 days of PEISO subscription free to North Queensland businesses, and we look forward to playing our part in helping operators achieve greater profitability and security.”

Hospo TechTalk is a free event sponsored by The Ville, Daktech and PEISO to be held from 6.30pm – 8.30pm at The Ville Resort-Casino on Tuesday 17 May with catering provided. Places are limited, register at.
