Shining a Light on Local Jobs

Townsville CityLibraries are shining a spotlight on employment as it rolls out the new Raintree Zoom Room and free sessions with Mas Careers advisors to get locals job-ready.

The brand new Raintree Zoom Room at Aitkenvale CityLibrary is a dedicated space for CityLibraries users to attend digital meetings like job interviews, lectures, business meetings, and more.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney says the new room would be great for people who wanted a quiet space to have meetings.

“Council has had meeting rooms available at its libraries for many years, but COVID-19 has really changed the way we hold meetings. Zoom, Skype and Facetime have become the new normal for everything from work meetings to job interviews,” Cr Greaney says.

“This switch towards digital meetings gave Council a push towards having a dedicated digital meeting space, which is why we now have the Raintree Zoom Room.

“This space has unlimited WiFi, a Mac computer with a built-in camera and microphone, Skype and Zoom already downloaded, access to the library catalogue and online resources, and most importantly it is in a quiet space.

“This is also a great offering for people who don’t have internet at home who need to access it in order to secure a job. We are thrilled to be able to offer this space to anyone in our community who needs it.”

Cr Greaney says job seekers could also take advantage of the Career chats running at Thuringowa and Aitkenvale CityLibraries.

“This is a great opportunity for people looking for a career change or getting into the workforce,” she says.

“These meetings with Mas Career advisors can help shape out a pathway to success, as well as help you write a resume and decide which career path would suit you best.”

To book into the Raintree Zoom Room or for a Career chat speak to library staff at any CityLibraries branch, call the library on 4727 8310 or email .
