North Queensland Women’s Leadership Forum to Empower and Inspire

The region is gearing up to host its inaugural North Queensland Women’s Leadership Forum, bringing together women from diverse industries for impactful discussions, with Olympian and medical doctor Jana Pittman as the keynote speaker.

Centred around the theme ‘Leading Self, Leading Others,’ the forum, taking place on Friday 8 November 2024, will offer a day of inspiring dynamic panel discussions aimed at providing practical strategies for both personal and professional growth.

Dianne Newell, founder of the forum and owner of The People & Culture Link, was inspired to create the event after attending similar gatherings in Western Australia.

“I couldn’t find anything like this in Townsville, so I decided to give it a go myself,” she says.

“It’s come from a deep commitment that has grown over the years of wanting to support and empower women.

“It’s about providing a platform where we can address unique issues and know that we aren’t alone.

“My hope is that every attendee will leave with at least one new tip, or a new connection that will help them day to day.”

Keesha Booth, General Manager of Grass Skirt Project, is among the notable local speakers and is eager to share her insights on the significance of owning one’s story in leadership.

“Being part of this forum is deeply meaningful to me because I believe that our dreams are not just our own – there are people whose lives are intertwined with them. It’s essential to own our stories and our businesses,” she says.

“Speaking from a place of truth means acknowledging the pain we’ve faced on our journeys, but not letting it define us.”

Keesha also highlights the critical need for diverse representation in leadership roles.

“Representation has always been crucial to me, especially as a woman of colour. Growing up, I didn’t see leaders who looked like me, and that absence made an impact,” she continues.

“By participating in this forum, I hope to offer attendees a diverse perspective on leadership, showing that it comes in many forms and can be embodied by a wide range of voices.”

Others in the line-up include local leaders such as Tara Harrold, Sandra Brown, Kieran Keyes, Clair Ryder, and Janelle Poole, all of whom will share insights during the day’s discussions.

BDmag Editor and Creative Concepts PR Director, Julie Johnston, will emcee the forum, which she considers a remarkable opportunity to showcase the strength and talent of North Queensland’s female leaders.

“I’m delighted to be part of this event,” says Julie. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to support women in our community and to shine a light on both current and emerging leaders.

“I’m looking forward to the connections and conversations that will emerge from it.”

The forum is also partnering with Suicide Prevention Queensland, with proceeds from the event going to support the charity’s efforts in providing crucial mental health services in the region.

Less than 25 tickets remain for the forum, with registrations closing on 25 October. For more details and to secure your spot, visit the North Queensland Women’s Leadership Forum website.
