TOWNSVILLE TRADIES RAISE $100K+ FOR DISABILITY-FRIENDLY HOME

Over fifty of Townsville’s best businesses, tradespeople and suppliers came together to raise over $150,000 for an accessible, dream home called Nolan’s Home.

Nolan’s Home is dedicated to young Nolan Rooms, who was born before his time at just 26 weeks. He suffered significant brain tissue loss when an infection took hold and is now living with Cerebral Palsy.

His parents, Nicole and Christian, wanted an independent life for their son who is now five years old. However, they found that it was financially impractical to renovate their home, which restricted Nolan to just one room. He couldn’t access his beloved brothers’ bedrooms, shower safely or go to the bathroom.

Despite every effort, the Rooms fell just short of securing a loan large enough to build a home that would allow Nolan to interact in family activities the same way his brothers Sam and Caiden did.

Then they found Martin Locke Homes.

Martin and his team rallied the support of local businesses, tradespeople and suppliers and the response was overwhelming.

“We cannot thank our amazing trade and supply partners enough, without them we would not have been able to break ground on this amazing project,” Director Martin Locke said.

“It’s inspirational to see such genuine generosity in times when local businesses are doing it tough themselves,”

In less than seven days, over $100,000 was donated to the house build. That number has now climbed to an astonishing $150,000 and continues to grow.

Because of the immense support, Martin Locke Homes has been able to include a heated therapy pool and therapy room in Nolan’s Home, which will be opened up to other children so they have access to a greater range of therapies.

“Building this home will be an emotional journey for our team and all involved, and we cannot wait to see Nolan’s famous smile when we hand over the keys.” Martin finished.

Nolan’s Home has touched the hearts of so many, with parents Nicole and Christian saying they were “overwhelmed by the support” from Martin Locke Homes and other businesses.

“This home will literally change Nolan’s life and how we are able to interact as a family. Even something as simple as Nolan being able to reach a tap to wash his own hands is huge for him,” Nolan’s mother Nicole said.

“Without independence, Nolan will not progress physically and emotionally as he grows into a man. It is so humbling to know that so many wonderful Townsville people have helped change Nolan’s future,” she finished.
