We changed it up a bit this week and had the entire week off before diving into the final six weeks of the program. While many went home for the break, a small portion of us stayed to explore the city in its natural habitat, which is currently steeped in Halloween decorations.
I spent most of the week exploring the different boroughs across the city – from Williamsburg to Brooklyn – and even threw in a ferry trip to Governors Island, which offered sweeping views of the city and Lady Liberty. The rest of the week was spent relaxing in Central Park amongst the beautiful Fall leaves, exploring the Jewish Quarters of New York, and trying new restaurants and cafes (and of course, more pizza).

On Thursday, I embarked on a trip to Washington D.C, where I saw all the iconic landmarks including the Marine Corps War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the White House and the Capitol. On the way back, we also stopped at Philadelphia and saw Independence Hall where the U.S Constitution was signed in 1787. Here, we saw the original Liberty Bell at Liberty Bell Centre and visited the famous “Rocky Steps” at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where we couldn’t resist recreating his famous climb alongside the backdrop of “Eye of the Tiger.”

Coming Up Next!
It’s been lovely to have a break from the course and spend the week getting to know the city on a deeper level with my new friends. However, I’m very much looking forward to jumping into this week, we will be unravelling the newspapers’ Style section and exploring everything from fashion trends to widespread public discourse on sustainable clothing!
Until next week, Georgie x
