Tell us about yourself and Digigami.
Hi! I’m Hayden Farrier, the owner of Digigami.
After serving in the Australian Defence Force, I transitioned into B2B sales and marketing. I’ve worked with a few local businesses in Townsville, however the team at Brighter Lives Townsville Hospital Foundation has a special place in my heart. I absolutely loved my time there helping get some new projects off the ground.
“Gift of the gab” is a term that’s thrown around a lot, turns out I have it! Regardless of what the business at hand is, I just enjoy connecting with people. I am a self-confessed camera nerd, I absolutely love travelling and I’m very fortunate to be able to travel a lot for my clients. They’ve taken me to some very remote corners of Australia.
This year I’ve pulled together a small team of creatives at Digigami. The goal is simple in theory – to streamline the website development and content creation nightmare for small to medium businesses in Regional Australia that find themselves lacking the time, knowledge and staff resources to (a) do it themselves or (b) engage large agencies in capital cities.
On a personal level, trust, laughter, and pride are the values I focus myself around. Anyone who knows me well understands that not much gets it the way of a good laugh! I believe it keeps things in perspective and reminds me not to take ourselves too seriously. I do, however take great satisfaction in knowing I’ve done the best I possibly can. And that taking pride in what you do will always show itself in the end product.
What has been the most challenging aspect of owning Digigami?
One of the biggest challenges has been overcoming self-doubt and understanding my own values. Transitioning from the structured environment of the Defence Force to the dynamic world of business required a large mindset shift. Balancing work and personal life has also been a learning experience—finding that equilibrium has always been tough.
I’ve found it even more difficult operating a business “doing what I love”. It’s very easy for your down time to become more work.
What is a fun fact about yourself?
I’ve just completed 12 months on the road in a 1987 Toyota Landcruiser I built myself. Along with my wife and the dog we travelled all over Australia, camping and working in almost every state!
What is the best piece of career or business advice you have ever received?
The best advice I’ve received is, “If you can’t teach it, you don’t know it well enough yet.” It’s proven itself time and time again in my life.
Going forward, what is next on the cards for Digigami?
Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand Digigami’s reach to support more small and medium-sized businesses in regional Australia. We’re embracing new technologies and innovative strategies in web development to help our clients stand out in the digital landscape. I’m looking forward to building new relationships and creating solutions that drive success for our clients and communities.
